INDIANAPOLIS - The Lewis baseball team dropped two contests to Great Lakes Valley Conference member Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon, 3-1 and 9-2.

The Flyers scored their only run of game one in the opening inning. The first three Flyers reached base to load them up for senior Chris McCall (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest/College of DuPage CC). He grounded into a double play to score freshman Mike Vucsko (Evergreen Park, Ill./Marist) from third base. Vucsko led the game off with a walk.

An Indianapolis sacrifice fly in the fourth tied the game at one. A two-out bases loaded single gave the Greyhounds the lead in the fifth. Indianapolis held it the rest of the way to earn the victory.

Freshman Pat Lahey (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) took the loss to bring his record to 2-3. He gave up two earned runs on five hits and two walks.

"Pat pitched well today against a good hitting team," head coach Tim McDonough said.

The Greyhounds took an early lead in game two thanks to five runs in the third inning. Lewis scored one in the sixth when senior Tim Bingham (Plainfield, Ill./Westland, Mi./John Glenn) hit an infield single with the bases loaded to score senior Ryan Koerner (LeRoy, Ill./LeRoy).

Koerner's fly ball in the seventh that Indianapolis' center fielder couldn't handle scored senior Jeffrey Ithal (Alsip, Ill./Shepard/MacMurray College) for the Flyers' second run of the game.

Indianapolis added two in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to make the final 9-2.

"We didn't hit well or play good defense today," McDonough said.

Freshman Don Cizek (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons) earned the loss to drop his record to 0-3. He gave up five earned runs in three innings. Freshman Drew Hicks (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

The Greyhounds improve to 21-10 (9-3 GLVC). Lewis falls to 11-12 (2-6 GLVC). The Flyers host St. Francis on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
