Evansville, Ind. - The Southern Indiana men's tennis team rallied from a 4-1 deficit against Lewis on Saturday afternoon to earn the 5-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Flyers at Advantage Courts and Fitness in a match that lasted over eight hours and featured a one hour delay due to thunderstorm and tornado warnings.

Lewis freshmen Uno Lapimaa (Talinn, Estonia/Tallina Audentese Erakooli) and Tonis Irdoja (Rocca Al Mare) led the charge for the Flyers, as each claimed a pair of wins on the afternoon. Lapimaa took home the 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over USI's Diego Gimenez while Irdoja emerged victorious with the 6-4, 6-4 win over Joseph Boesing. Irdoja and Lapimaa also teamed up at No. 1 doubles for the 8-4 win over Gimenez and Boesing.

"We were up 4-1 after a good showing in doubles and of course by our always reliable No. 1 and No. 2 singles players," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "Now we need to learn how to close out these matches."

With the victory, Southern Indiana improves to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in GLVC action, while the Flyers drop to 1-11 on the campaign and 0-3 in conference play.

The Flyers other victory came at No. 2 doubles with senior Ben Karas (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and freshman Balazs Somogyi (Kvassay Jeno Muszaki Szakkozepiskola) claiming the 8-6 win over Nathan Sexton and Ben Hamm.

The Flyers are back in action on Sunday (March 29) as they travel to Edwardsville, Ill., to square off with both SIU-Edwardsville (10 a.m.) and Truman State (2 p.m.).
