Kissimmee, Fla. - The #14 Lewis University softball team can head back to Romeoville with a smile on its face, as the Flyers claimed a 7-2 win over Northwood and a 4-2 triumph over Saint Xavier to finish the Rebel Spring Games with a mark of 11-1 at the Fortune Road Complex on Thursday afternoon.

With the victories, Lewis improves to 16-7 on the campaign.

"We're very pleased with how we played during this entire trip and to come back at 16-7," Lewis University head softball coach George DiMatteo said. "Everyone got to play and had a big part in our success. We're certainly coming home on a high note."

Lewis sophomore outfielder Sarah Hurley (Bolingbrook, Ill./Plainfield Central) was 2-for-3 against Northwood with a RBI and a run scored, while senior outfielder Jessica Beck (Jasper, Ind./Jasper) added two base knocks and a run scored. Junior infielder Kara Harmatys (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) added two RBI in the win.

"We singled them to death today," DiMatteo said. "We jumped on them early, took advantage of their walks and (three errors) with some clutch hitting."

Lewis senior pitcher Julie Wingerter (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) improved her record in the circle to 4-2, as she allowed just one run and five hits in five innings of work.

In the final contest of the Rebel Spring Games, the Flyers used a four-run fourth inning to claim the 4-2 come-from-behind win over local rival Saint Xavier.

Sophomore infielder Stephanie Trapp (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) led the way offensively for the Flyers, as she went 3-for-3 with a run scored, while teammates Katie Healy (Homewood, Ill./Marian Catholic) and Traci Frietag (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central) each went 2-for-3 with a RBI against the Cougars.

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, Lewis senior Michelle Yudys (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) roped a one-out, bases loaded single to score Trapp from third base, cutting the lead to 2-1. Frietag would then plate junior Lexie Vernon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) with a game-tying RBI single to left field.

With the bases still loaded, freshman Alicia McKendry (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Healy added an insurance run for the Flyers with a RBI single up the middle for the final score of 4-2.

Junior Allison Hernandez (Berwyn, Ill./Trinity) earned the win for the Flyers, as she threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, while senior Courtney Lyons (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro) claimed her team-best fourth save of the season, with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. The Flyers' defense was solid as well, as Saint Xavier left 12 runners on base for the afternoon, while collecting 11 hits off of Lewis pitchers.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday, March 14th as they head to Kansas City, Missouri for a doubleheader against Rockhurst (12 p.m.).
