PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Sophomore Junior Ryan Koerner (LeRoy, Ill./LeRoy) finished 3-for-3 but the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons defeated Lewis 11-7 on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference game.

The Flyers fell behind early with Missouri-St. Louis scoring all 11 of their runs in the first four innings off of starter junior Matt Zicher (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey/Triton).

Freshman Ryan Servos (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsee Valley) came in and pitched virtually flawless baseball the rest of the way. He allowed just two hits and three walks with no runs in 4.1 innings.

"Ryan came in and shut it down," head coach Tim McDonough said. "He allowed us to chip away at their lead."

The Flyers scored their first runs of the game in the fifth when Koerner knocked in sophomore Richard Forkin (Orland Park, Ill./Lockport). Freshman Cameron Anello (Homer Glen, Ill./Brother Rice) then singled in junior Ryan McManaman (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan).

In the seventh, junior Michael Beier (Lowell, Ind./Lowell/IU Northwest) recorded his first collegiate hit and then scored when junior Joe Carbone (Lemont, Ill./Lemont/Florida Gulf Coast University) reached on an error by the third baseman.

Lewis added four in the ninth to make the Tritons sweat. Beier started it with a walk. The bases were loaded when Anello was hit by a pitch to score Beier. Carbone grounded out to score junior Ted Bartnik (Diamond, Ill./Coal City/Illinois Valley CC) A wild pitch brought in sophomore Ben Stephen (St. Joseph, Mich./Lake Michigan Catholic). Senior Tim Bingham (Plainfield, Ill./Westland, Mi./John Glenn) singled to score Anello and make it 11-7.

"Give UMSL credit they swung the bats really well today," McDonough said. "But we still had things to feel good about. We played solid defense and didn't give at bats away and it showed by the runs we put up."

Lewis falls to 5-4. UMSL improves to 2-4. The Flyers face C.W. Post on Friday at 8 a.m. to close out the spring trip.
