Women's Tennis Edges Quincy, 5-4

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team received a pair of victories from both graduate student Melanie Sandberg (Motala, Sweden/Platenskolan/Truman College) and freshman Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) to help the host Flyers to the 5-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Quincy University at the Lewis Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.

Sandberg and Hargrove teamed up at No. 1 doubles for the 8-5 victory over Quincy's Lauren Henry and Anele Novak. Sandberg would later upend Henry (6-1, 6-2) at No. 2 singles, while Hargrove defeated Michelle Bertelsman (6-1, 6-1) at No. 3 singles. Lewis senior Agata Wojciechowski (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine East/Oakton C.C.) claimed the 6-2, 6-0 victory over Novak at No. 1 singles.

With the victory, Lewis improves to 10-9 overall and 4-5 in GLVC action, while Quincy falls to 7-16 on the campaign and 1-8 in conference play.

Lewis sophomore Clare Kessler (Onalaska, Wis./Aquinas) and freshman Maggie Novack (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) paired up at No. 3 doubles for the 8-5 victory over Bertlesman and Bernadette Hayden.

Lewis wraps up the regular-season at home on Saturday morning, as they welcome Missouri-St. Louis for a 10 a.m. first serve.
