Romeoville, Ill. - A day after clinching their first berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament in six years, the Lewis University men's tennis team were brought back down to earth as visiting Missouri-St. Louis picked up the 8-1 GLVC victory over the host Flyers at the Lewis Tennis Courts on Saturday morning.
"I was very disappointed with our effort today," Lewis University head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said.
With the victory, Missouri-St. Louis improves to 5-11 overall and 4-5 in GLVC action, while the Flyers fall to 4-16 on the campaign and 2-7 in conference play.
Lewis redshirt freshman Tonis Irdoja (Tallin, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare) earned the lone victory for the Flyers with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over UMSL's Daniel Anthony at No. 2 singles.
The Great Lakes Valley Conference men's tennis tournament begins on Friday, April 24th at Missouri-St. Louis.
