Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team was on a roll against Missouri-St. Louis in their regular-season finale, as they won all three doubles matches against the Tritons.
Unfortunately for Lewis, UMSL won five out of six singles matches on their way to a 5-4 win over the Flyers on Saturday morning at the Lewis Tennis Courts.
"We needed to compete for every point and we did not do that today," Lewis University head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said.
With the victory, Missouri-St. Louis improves to 7-8 overall and 5-5 in GLVC action, while the Flyers drop to 10-10 on the season and 4-6 in conference play.
Freshman Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) was the only Flyer to win two matches, as she paired up with graduate student Melanie Sandberg (Motala, Sweden/Platenskolan/Truman College) for the 8-6 triumph over UMSL's Pujitha Bandi and Stephanie Thompson. Hargrove later added a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 come-from-behind win over Altanzul Gombo at No. 3 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, Lewis senior Agata Wojciechowska (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine East/Oakton C.C.) and freshman Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) paired up for the 8-3 win over Gombo and Leticia Garcia.
At No. 3 doubles, seniors Jordan Lynde (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) and Michelle Wright (Aurora, Ill./Rosary) earned the 8-1 victory over UMSL's Katie Rynkiewich and Katie Feldman.
