Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team put forth a valiant effort against Bellarmine on Friday afternoon, but the Flyers were unable to get over the hump as the visiting Knights earned the 8-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference Victory at the Lewis Tennis Courts.
"The final score doesn't indicate how close we were of beating a very good Bellarmine team," Lewis Assistant Women's Tennis Coach Slavko Radman said. "We just need to find a way to play better at the end of sets and matches."
With the victory, Bellarmine improves to 8-5 on the campaign and 3-2 in GLVC action, while the Flyers fall to 6-7 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
Lewis freshman Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) and graduate student Melanie Sandberg (Motala, Sweden/Platenskolan/Truman College) claimed the lone victory for the Flyers with the 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles over Bellarmine's Rebecca Porter and Emily Roebker.
The Flyers return to action on Saturday (April 4), as they host Kentucky Wesleyan for a 10 a.m. first serve.
