Romeoville, Ill. -The 12th-ranked Lewis University men's soccer team dominated nearly every facet of Sunday's non-conference contest against Saginaw Valley State, but were unable to find the back of the net, as the Flyers and Cardinals battled to a 0-0, double-overtime draw at Lewis Soccer Field.

For the second-straight game, the Flyer defense pitched a shutout, holding Saginaw Valley State to just four shots on the afternoon, and the offense unloaded 20 attempts on the Cardinals defense, nine of which were on goal. Lewis, however, was unable to dominate in the stat that mattered most.

"We did everything but score a goal, and that's the bottom line," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said.

With the tie, the Flyers move to 1-0-1 on the campaign, improving their unbeaten streak to 16 games, while the Cardinals are now 0-1-1 on the season.

Lewis freshman goalkeeper Sebastian Kieruzal (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) posted his second consecutive shutout in as many collegiate starts, as the Cardinals were unable to muster a shot on goal. Saginaw Valley State keeper Piotr Kazmierczak stopped all eight shots that he faced to secure the tie for the Cardinals.

Kazmierczak can thank his teammate Brock Humphries for saving a Lewis goal early in the second half. Lewis forward Nestor Hernandez (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) took a long pass and was able to beat Kazmierczak at about the 10 yard line.

Hernandez was able to muster a shot, but could not get enough on it, as Humphries was able to recover and make the team save just shy of the goalline at the 52:35 mark.

The Flyers open Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday, September 6th, as they take on Drury for a 2:30 p.m. showdown.

A Catholic University sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The mid-sized university is being honored for the fifth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report. For more information please visit www.lewisu.edu.
