ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Jessica McNamara (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) scored her second goal of the year, but Saginaw Valley State outlasted the Flyers 2-1 in a non-conference women's soccer game on Sunday afternoon.

Following a scoreless first half the action was quick and frantic in the second. Saginaw Valley State broke the tie in the 50th minute on a give and go play. Jacylyn Barrett gave it back to Tiffany Bell who found the back of the night from the right side.

The Cardinals' lead would last less than a minute. McNamara found herself open thanks to assists from junior Kelsey Muruato (Lombard, Ill./College of DuPage) and freshman Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett).

Back came the Cardinals, scoring not even a minute and half later. It was Bell once more finding room near the net thanks to a feed from Lara English.

It stayed that way the rest of the way as the Flyers couldn't find the equalizer. Junior goaltender Megan George (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) finished with six saves for the Flyers.

"We knew they battled hard for 50/50 balls and unfortunately we didn't match them until the second half," head coach Chris Koenig said. "We made a game of it in the second but that wasn't enough. Now we have one game to prepare for conference play."

Saginaw Valley State and Lewis are both now 1-1. The Flyers play at Ferris State on Tuesday.
