ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis used two second half goals to come from behind and top Missouri-St. Louis 2-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday afternoon at the Lewis Soccer Field.

Lewis tied the game at the 70:11 mark. Freshman Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) earned the assist after the Tritons goaltender couldn't corral her initial shot. Senior Erin Beddows (Ada, Mich./Lowell) took advantage of the carom and fired the ball off the bottom of the cross bar and into the net for her second goal of the season.

Less than five minutes later senior Amy Foran (Batavia, Ill/Batavia) delivered a long cross from the far right side that appeared to be heading directly into the hands of the Tritons' goaltender. Sophomore Allison Schieffer (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) raced in and headed the pass into the back of the net for her second goal of the year.

The Flyers held the 2-1 lead the rest of the way.

"We were more fit and it paid off in the second half," head coach Chris Koenig said. "We had chances and the difference was we were able to finish a few of them."

The Tritons' Sarah Stone scored in the 28th minute to give UMSL an early 1-0 lead. Stone scored the goal from 10 yards out on the left wing off a pass from senior Anne Nesbit and sophomore Jesa Jenkins.

The Flyers out-shot the Tritons, 14-11, including 9-6 in shots on goal.

"It was nice to get home and get a conference victory," Koenig said. "We have another big one coming up on Sunday."

UMSL falls to 1-4-0 (1-3-0 GLVC). Lewis improves to 2-3-2 (1-2-1 GLVC). The Flyers host Southern Indiana on Sunday at noon.
