Men's Soccer Edges Kentucky Wesleyan, 3-2, For Fourth Straight Win

Owensboro, Ky. - Lewis University senior forwards Charlie Bucio (Chicago, Ill./Juarez) and Nestor Hernandez (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) each posted a goal and an assist to help the visiting Flyers to their fourth-straight win with the 3-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday afternoon.

With the victory, Lewis improves to 5-2-1 overall and 4-2 in GLVC action, while the host Panthers drop to 2-8 on the season and 0-6 in conference play.

Bucio put the Flyers on the board first with a score at the 10:21 mark of the first half, as Hernandez assisted on the play.

The Panthers would square it up 14 minutes later, as Ben Nitch took a feed from A.J. Roberto and beat Lewis goalkeeper Sebastian Kieruzal for the score.

Hernandez broke the 1-all deadlock seven minutes later with his team-leading fifth tally of the season. Bucio and junior midfielder Jose Ibarra (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) assisted on the play.

Lewis senior Kipp Cartwright (Park Forest, Ill./Marian Catholic) added an insurance tally at the 60:42 mark of the contest with an unassisted goal. Cartwright has now scored at least one point in the Flyers' last three games.

The Panthers scored with 30 seconds left in the contest, as they were the beneficiary of an own goal by the Flyers.

For the game, Lewis outshot the Panthers, 17-3, with 12 of the Flyers' shots on goal.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday, as they square off with Bellarmine at 2:30 p.m.
