SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Redshirt senior Ashlee Lindish (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) had 14 digs in just two sets to help No. 13 Lewis women's volleyball sweep Illinois-Springfield 25-23, 25-13, 25-22 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference road match on Friday evening.
"Ashlee was all over the court digging everything tonight," head coach Lorelee Smith said of the former All-GLVC libero.
Senior Sara deBuhr (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) had nine kills and no errors with three block assists in two sets of action.
Seniors Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) and Kim Richards (Evergreen Park, Ill./Mother McAuley) each had seven kills. Sophomore Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence) recorded seven kills and seven digs. Redshirt sophomore Kelly McConkey (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) totaled 13 digs with two aces.
Freshman Mary Carroll (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) recorded four kills and three block assists off the bench.
"Being a freshman it was good to see Mary come in and do a nice job," Smith said.
The Prairie Stars led the opening set late however the Flyers rallied back for the win. Lewis finished the second set on a 9-2 run to take the frame. Many of the Lewis backups helped the Flyers finish the Prairie Stars off in the third set.
Illinois-Springfield falls to 6-9 (0-3 GLVC). Lewis improves to 13-3 (3-0 GLVC). The Flyers are at Quincy on Saturday.
