Louisville, Ky. - Bellarmine's Ross Hopkins scored with 17 seconds left in overtime to push the host Knights to a 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Lewis University men's soccer team, snapping the Flyers' four-game winning streak, at Frazier Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Hopkins scored from 23 yards out off of a rebound from teammate Francisco Cano past Lewis goalkeeper Sebastian Kieruzal.
With the victory, Bellarmine improves to 6-2-1 and 4-2 in GLVC play, while the Flyers drop to 5-3-1 overall and 4-3 in conference action.
After a scoreless first half, Lewis posted the first tally of the afternoon, as senior forward Nestor Hernandez (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) scored at the 71:40 mark, his third-straight game with a goal. Senior Kipp Cartwright (Park Forest, Ill./Marian Catholic) assisted on the play, marking his fourth-straight game with at least one point.
The Knights evened the score up with 4:14 left in the second half, as Ian Porta headed in the tying goal off of a rebound from Grant Wheeler.
Kieruzal finished the afternoon with four saves, while Bellarmine keeper Zane Reifsteck had six saves in the victory.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Oct. 2), as they welcome No. 1 ranked Northern Kentucky for a 2:30 p.m. start.
