LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Lewis women's soccer team lost 1-0 to Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference road contest.

Bellarmine scored the only goal of the game with 26 seconds remaining in the first half when Jacqueline LaFont headed in a cross from Adrianna Long. LaFont positioned herself 12 yards in front of the goal and headed the cross into the left side. The score was set up by a corner kick.

The Knights made the tally stand the rest of the way. Bellarmine, who beat No. 25 Indianapolis and No. 20 UW-Parkside earlier this season, held a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.

"What it comes down to is you can't give up a corner kick with so little remaining and then not be urgent enough to clear it," head coach Chris Koenig said. "Otherwise I think defensively we played well but we aren't sharp enough in the offensive third of the field. That will be our focus this week. If we don't start creating pressure in that offensive third then we're going to play more 1-0, 2-1 tight contests down the stretch."

Junior goaltender Megan George (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) made eight saves for the Flyers.

Sophomore Allison Schieffer (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) had three shots, two on goal. Senior Amy Foran (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) and freshman Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) each tallied a shot on goal.

Bellarmine improves to 7-1 (5-1 GLVC). Lewis falls to 2-6-2 (1-5-1 GLVC).
