INDIANAPOLIS - Despite foul trouble to all-conference performer junior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) the Flyers kept the No. 3 team in the nation at arms length for 30 minutes. However the Greyhounds pulled away during the final 10 minutes to post a 78-59 victory over Lewis on Saturday evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference road contest.

Turpel played just 16 minutes due to foul trouble, scoring 10 points. She sat out most of the first half due to two fouls and recorded her third and fourth fouls early in the second. She eventually fouled out late in the second half.

Indianapolis led by just six points with 2:54 remaining in the first half when six quick Greyhounds baskets lifted their lead to 12. Freshman Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the first half to cut Lewis' deficit to 38-29.

Sophomore Lory Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township/UW-Green Bay) scored her only points of the game on a jumper with 10:04 remaining in the game to cut the Lewis' deficit to 48-40. However the Greyhounds followed with a 12-point run to clinch the game.

"I don't fault our effort tonight," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "We played hard, but from an execution perspective we never got in a flow against their zone. It takes more than effort to beat a third ranked team."

Freshman Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) led Lewis with 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting. She also had five rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks. Senior Kelly Dianis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) totaled 16 points.

The difference in the game came at the free throw line. Indianapolis made 20-of-23 while Lewis made two of only six attempts.

"Our inability to get to the free throw line really hurt us tonight," Carlsen said.

Indianapolis moves to 16-0 (7-0 GLVC) while Lewis falls to 9-8 (5-3 GLVC). Lewis remains a game behind first place UW-Parkside in the GLVC North thanks to UW-Parkside's 62-60 loss to Northern Kentucky on Saturday.

The Flyers are next in action on Thursday when they travel to Rolla, Mo. to face Missouri S&T at 5:30 p.m. CT.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 9th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
