Men's Basketball: Lewis 84, Indianapolis 78 in PDF Format
Indianapolis, Ind. - Lewis University junior guard
Donald Rowe (Kansas City, Kan./Wyandotte/Independence C.C.) posted a season-high 20 points to lead four players in double-figures as the visiting Flyers claimed the 84-78 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Indianapolis at Nicoson Hall on Saturday (Jan. 16) night.
Sophomores Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) and Justin Jarosz (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) each scored 15 points for the Flyers, while junior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) added 14 in the win.
"I'm proud of our guys," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "I thought we did a good job defensively in the second half and really made it tough for (Indianapolis) to score. Offensively, we did some really good things and shared the ball.
"We're getting better, and this is a good quality road win for us."
With the victory, Lewis improves to 11-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while the host Greyhounds fall to 9-7 on the campaign and 3-4 in GLVC action.
UIndy forward Nate Blank paced the Indianapolis offensive attack with a game-high 24 points on 10-for-19 shooting, while teammate Ryan Sims knocked down six three-pointers to finish with 22 tallies. Greyhounds reserve DeWann Squires came off the bench to post a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
UIndy leading scorer Darius Adams, who entered Saturday's contest averaging 19 points-per-game, was held in check defensively by the Flyers, as he scored only three points on 1-for-7 shooting.
The Flyers made the most of their opportunities from the free throw line on Saturday, as they converted a season-best 96.2% (24-for-25) from the charity stripe, including a perfect 8-for-8 in the last 29 seconds of regulation. Lewis was equally as effective shooting from the floor as they shot 51.9% (27-for-52) from the field and 60.0% (15-for-25) in the second half.
The final five minutes of the second half proved to be all Flyers. After trailing by as many as seven in the stanza, Lewis finally pulled away, using a 9-3 run to break a 67-all tie and give them a lead they would never surrender.
Lewis returns to the court on Thursday night, as they head to Rolla, Missouri to square off with Missouri S&T for a 7:45 PM (CST) showdown.
