HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Senior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) recorded her second straight double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds however defending conference champion Northern Kentucky defeated Lewis 71-55 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference road contest on Saturday afternoon.
Lewis started the game strong, taking a 10-4 lead five minutes into the contest. Freshman Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) scored three of her 10 points on a trey with 11:12 left in the first half to give Lewis a 15-12 lead. The Norse followed with a 23-7 run to close the half and take a 38-19 lead at the break. Northern Kentucky never looked back in the second.
Northern Kentucky shot 51.0 percent (25-of-49) from the floor while Lewis made 30.5 percent (18-of-59).
"You won't win many games shooting 30 percent," head coach Lisa Carlsen said.
The Norse held a 42-to-29 edge in rebounds. Brandi Rayburn scored 22 points for the Norse.
Northern Kentucky improves to 7-4 (1-2 GLVC). Lewis falls to 6-6 (2-1 GLVC). The Flyers play at Bellarmine on Monday at 4:45 CT.
