SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Lewis came within three-points of rallying from an 11-point in the final three minutes at Drury on Saturday afternoon, however the final points they needed never came and the Flyers fell 75-72 at Weiser Gym.

Junior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) cut Lewis' deficit to nine with a jumper at 2:37. A Drury turnover and another Turpel basket put the score at 75-68 with 1:57 remaining. After multiple possessions by both teams Turpel earned a trip to the free throw line with 1:04 remaining. She made the first but missed the second. Luckily for the Flyers freshman Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) grabbed the rebound and kept the possession alive for junior Kady Currin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) to nail a 3-pointer and make it a 75-72 lead with 1:01 left.

Lewis pressure forced a quick Drury turnover and gave Currin a chance to tie it up. Her shot was off the mark but Murdock grabbed another offensive board. Murdock missed a shot underneath and Drury grabbed the rebound and took it down the other end. The Flyers decided not to foul and it paid off, with sophomore Devon Carbaugh (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) getting a steal. Lewis took the ball up and called a timeout with 10 seconds left. Currin tried to tie it with a 3-pointer, but her attempt was off the mark and Drury held on for the victory.

"I was proud we didn't lie down," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "However we had some opportunities before getting within one possession that we didn't take advantage of and that will come back to hurt you going against a good team like Drury."

The two clubs played a back and forth first half, featuring eight ties and 10 lead changes. Lewis led 34-30 with three minutes remaining in the first half thanks to a 3-pointer by senior Kelly Dianis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central). However the Panthers finished the half on a 10-2 run to take a four-point lead into the break.

The Flyers trailed 45-43 minutes into the second half when the cover went on the basket for Lewis. Eight Drury points later and the Panthers were in control until Lewis' late push.

Turpel scored 22 points to move into 10th all-time in career scoring with 1,135 points. Murdock had her second consecutive game with four offensive rebounds. She finished with 10 points and a career-best eight assists. Currin totaled 16 points and four assists. Dianis added 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Katie Pritchard led Drury with 21 points.

Drury improves to 16-4 (8-1 GLVC) while the Flyers fall to 10-9 (6-4 GLVC). Lewis returns home on Thursday to face Kentucky Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields.
