ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) scored the game's only goal with less than three minutes remaining to give Lewis a 1-0 victory over St. Joseph's on Sunday. The win is Lewis' fifth Great Lakes Valley Conference victory of the season, the most since 1997.

Abate's score came at 87:88. Senior Jessica Summers-Hernandez (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) found Abate in space on the right side and Abate sprinted down the field to earn a one-on-one with the Puma's goalkeeper. Abate delivered the ball right between the keeper's legs and into the net. The tally is her fourth of the season. Summers-Hernandez earned an assist on the goal.

The shot was Abate's ninth of the game. Senior Megan George (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) made two saves for her ninth career shutout.

Lewis held a dominating 26-5 edge in shots, including a 17-1 edge in the second half.

"We had to get this result today, but the overall performance was unacceptable," head coach Chris Koenig said. "I'm happy with the shot total but our focus was terrible and we had chances we just gave away. We need to regroup and find that urgency we played with on Friday at Parkside."

St. Joseph's falls to 1-10-1 (1-9-0 GLVC). Lewis improves to 5-7-0 (5-6-0 GLVC). The Flyers host Ferris State on Tuesday in a non-conference tilt at 2:30 p.m.
