AURORA, Ill. - No. 11 Lewis swept Wayne State 25-16, 25-17, 25-23 on Friday afternoon in the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover at the Great Lakes Volleyball Center. The match was the first of two for Lewis on Friday. At 5:30 p.m. Lewis will play No. 12 Hillsdale.
The Flyers won the opener thanks to some stellar defense. Senior Lauren Seliga recorded 20 digs. Sophomore Jen Krumwiede recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Lewis limited Wayne State to just a .104 attack percentage.
Sophomore Carly Perschnick also added 10 kills for Lewis.
After cursing to an easy opening set win, Lewis pulled away in the second set midway through. It was tied at 14 when Lewis would finish the set on an 11-3 run. Senior Rachel Ruedi had an ace for the game's final point.
The third set was the closest. Lewis led 23-21 before Wayne State tied it at 23. However back-to-back Perschnick kills gave Lewis the match.
Wayne State fell to 9-8 while Lewis improved to 16-2.
