EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Senior Rachel Ruedi (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet Seymour) recorded 51 assists and helped No. 16 Lewis hit .320 in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-13) victory at conference-foe Southern Indiana Saturday afternoon. It's the third time in Ruedi's career she's recorded 50 or more assists in a four-set match.

"Rachel's confidence and energy was off the charts today," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "It caught on with the rest of the team."

Lewis' offense didn't start quickly out of the gates, hitting just .190 in an opening set loss. However the Flyers bounced back quickly in the second set, never trailing in the frame and winning it by seven points to tie the match at one.

In the third set, USI turned away a pair of Lewis set points to make the score 24-23 in favor of the Flyers. Lewis asked for time and went to senior outside hitter Lauren Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) for the game, and she came through. Her kill gave Lewis a 2-1 advantage.

The tide of the fourth set changed on the serving of graduate student Adria Phillips (South Bend, Ind./Riley/Indiana). Much like the opening game against Grand Valley State a week earlier, Phillips spurred a 5-0 run which made the score 15-7 in favor of Lewis. It was part of a larger 9-1 stretch that helped give Lewis the set and the match. Phillips finished with three aces for the match.

Seliga led Lewis with 19 kills while adding 11 digs. Sophomore Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township/Nova Southeastern) hit. 519 with 15 kills. Senior Danielle Mount (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) added 10 kills and five block assists. Freshman Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) totaled 18 digs.

Lewis' .320 hitting percentage is their best in a four-set contest this season.

Lewis improves to 19-4 (9-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference). USI falls to 13-10 (6-4 GLVC). The Flyers have a quick turn around, hosting UW-Parkside on Tuesday in a GLVC match. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
