KENOSHA, Wis. - Sometimes the difference in a contest is in the game's final moments. Sometimes, like on Friday afternoon, it's right out of the gates. The Lewis women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at UW-Parkside with the only goal in the Great Lakes Valley Conference contest coming less than two minutes into the game.
Megan Owens scored the game's only tally at 1:32 off assists by Kristen Benson and Shannon Becker for UW-Parkside.
Lewis held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. The Flyers limited the Rangers to zero shots on goal in the second half.
"We really battled but they're the best team in the conference for a reason," head coach Chris Koenig said. "We gave ourselves a chance to be dangerous but we didn't create enough opportunities.
"We had a chance to get a result against a top team but the early goal was the difference."
Sophomore Jenny Hyde (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake) and sophomore Libby Cooper (Batavia, Ill/Batavia/UW-Milwaukee) each recorded a shot for Lewis.
UW-Parkside improves to 10-1-1 (9-0-1 GLVC). Lewis falls to 4-7-0 (4-6-0 GLVC). The Flyers host St. Joseph's on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
