Men's Basketball: Lewis 84, Alaska-Anchorage 70 in PDF Format

Anaheim, Calif. - It took a game and a half for the Lewis University men's basketball team to find their shooting stroke, but when it came, it came in bunches.

Lewis outscored Alaska-Anchorage 49-25 in the second-half to rally from a 16-point first half deficit on their way to the 84-70 non-conference victory over the Seawolves at the Disney Division II West Coast Tip-Off Classic at the Anaheim Convention Center on Saturday (Nov. 13) evening.

While the 49 second-half points were nice, Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost was more pleased with holding the Seawolves to 25 points in the final stanza.

"I'll take the 25 points every time," Trost said. "The key is getting stops, and I thought our effort was a lot better tonight. We started to compete and play harder than we did last night (against UC-San Diego).

"If you defend, rebound and don't turn the ball over, you're going to be successful as a team."

With the win, Lewis improves to 1-1, while the Seawolves are now 0-2 on the campaign.

Lewis junior point guard Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) led the Flyers with 20 points, including a career-high six three-pointers, five of which came in the second half.

Lewis center Marty Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) posted a double-double of 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while classmate Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) chipped in 13 points.

Senior guard Dennis Thomas (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) added 12 points and six assists, while sophomore David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) pitched in 11 points and six rebounds in the win.

For the game, Lewis shot 55.1% (27-for-49) from the field and 60.8% (14-for-23) in the second-half. McClellan's outside shooting keyed the Flyers to shoot 63.6% (7-for-11) from beyond the arc in the second half.

Alaska-Anchorage forward Taylor Rohde topped the Seawolves with 19 points, followed by Drew Robinson (12 points), Brandon Walker (11 points) and Casey Robinson (10 points).

Lewis rounds out their trip on Sunday (Nov. 14), as the Flyers finish the tournament against Dixie State for a 1 p.m. (CST) tip-off.
