Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team not only picked up experience, they picked up a valuable in-region win, as the Flyer bench scored 40 points to help push Lewis to the 77-64 non-conference victory over Wayne State at Neil Carey Arena on Friday (Nov. 19) night.

Seven different players saw at least 20+ minutes of action and 10 Flyers played 10+ minutes in the win.

Lewis senior forward Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) led all scorers with 20 points, while classmate Carol Kruckman (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) racked up a career-high 14 points and tied her career-best with six rebounds. Sophomore Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) made an immediate impact off the bench with 13 points and seven rebounds.

With the win, Lewis improves to 2-1 on the season, while the visiting Warriors remain winless at 0-3.

The Flyers were able to utilize their bench, thanks in part to a 20-5 run to close out the first half with a 36-19 lead. Murdock scored five of her points during that span, while senior point guard Kady Currin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) posted all four of her points.

Lewis, behind 10 points from Turpel, extended its lead to 63-38 with 7:46 left in the second half, allowing Flyer head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen to rest her starters.

"It was nice to see everyone get some quality minutes tonight," Carlsen said. "Our starters helped us jump out early, and I saw some good things from our bench. I thought Carol (Kruckman) had a solid game and hopefully this experience will be good for us down the road."

For the game, Lewis shot a season-high 54.9% (28-for-51) from the field, while Wayne State converted 40.6% (26-for-64) of their attempts. Lewis, once again, was solid from the free throw line, knocking down 85.7% (18-for-21) of their charity tosses.

Wayne State had four different players scoring in double-figures with junior guard Kiara Smith leading the way with 16 points. WSU forward Chelsea Davis added 11 points, while teammates Deanna Crumpton and Tyler Hardy each chipped in 10 for the Warriors.

Lewis returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 23) night, as the Flyers welcome in-region foe Ferris State to Neil Carey Arena for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
