INDIANAPOLIS - Junior Lory Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township/UW-Green Bay) had a career-high 25 points on Friday evening for Lewis women's basketball against No. 23 Tusculum. However the Flyers dropped the contest 93-82. The game was played on the campus of University of Indianapolis as part of the UIndy Classic.

The score was tied at 21 in the first half when Tusculum went on a 25-11 run to take their largest lead of the game at 14 with 2:04 remaining. A jumper in the paint by freshman Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) and a pair of free throws from Shaw cut the Flyers' deficit to 10 at the break.

Lewis came out of the locker room strong in the second, cutting the Pioneers lead to three points less than four minutes into the half. A basket by senior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) sliced the Flyers' deficit to two with 14:40 remaining, however it would be as close as Lewis would get. The Flyers deficit was single digits for most of the final 15 minutes until Lewis resorted to fouling in the final minute.

"Give them credit because they were hitting on all cylinders tonight," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "However I think this was the best game we've played all year by far."

Lewis shot 51.7 percent (31-of-60) for the game. Tusculum made 31-of-35 free throws while Lewis connected on 12-of-15. Two of the Flyers' free throws came before the game even started after Tusculum was issued a technical foul for not submitting their starting lineup in time.

In addition to her 25 points, Shaw also had five rebounds and three blocks.

"Lory was as good tonight as she's been in a Flyer uniform," Carlsen said. "She had good positioning and was strong to the basket."

Senior Kelly Monaco (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) made 4-of-6 treys to finish with 16 points. Sophomore Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) added 12 points, three blocks and three steals.

Tusculum improves to 1-3 while Lewis is 2-3. Lewis concludes the UIndy Classic on Saturday with a 3 p.m. ET tip-off against Marygrove.
