INDIANAPOLIS - The Lewis bench scored 46 points in the Flyers' 92-54 women's basketball non-conference victory over Marygrove on Saturday afternoon. The game was played on the campus of the University of Indianapolis as part of the UIndy Classic.
Lewis was paced by 18 points and five rebounds from senior Carol Kruckman (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville). Senior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) added 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Freshman Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) totaled 15 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks off the bench. The contest saw 10 different Flyers score.
"It was nice to get everyone in," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "We were able to get some younger players quality minutes."
Lewis shot 54.5 percent (36-of-66) from the floor while limiting Marygrove to 33.8 percent (22-of-65) shooting.
Lewis made 16-of-17 free throws.
Marygrove's only lead of the game came on the first basket of the game. Lewis took a lead as large as 22 in the first half. They extended that lead to more than 30 points in the second half.
Lewis improves to 3-3 while Marygrove falls to 1-6. Lewis opens conference play on Thursday at Maryville. Tip-off is set for 5:15 p.m.
