Men's Basketball: Lewis 82, St. Francis (IL) 61 in PDF Format

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team not only took care of the ball, but took care of business on Saturday (Dec. 11) night, as the Flyers turned the ball over a mere three times on their way to the 82-61 non-conference victory over local rival St. Francis (IL) at Neil Carey Arena.

Lewis turned the ball over just three times, which is the fewest Flyer miscues since a two-turnover outing against Bellarmine on January 22, 2004.

"That was good to see," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "Turnovers have been our nemesis all year. I thought we played pretty good defense for the most part, and when you don't turn the ball over, you give yourself a chance.

"We're making progress (as a team), and we have to keep getting better."

Lewis University senior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) led the Flyers with a game-high 19 points and six assists with no turnovers. Jerome Robinson (Skokie, Ill./St. Patrick/Morton College), Marty Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) and Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) each added 10 points for the Flyers in the win.

With the victory, Lewis improves to 6-5, while the Fighting Saints are now 7-4.

For the game, Lewis shot 56.4% (31-for-55) from the field and outscored St. Francis, 44-22, in the paint.

St. Francis freshman guard Andrew Lerg topped the Fighting Saints with 12 points, while junior center Bruce Watson added 11 points and a team-best five rebounds.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday, December 18th, as the Flyers head to Bourbonnais to square off with NAIA power Olivet Nazarene for a 2 p.m. (CST) tip-off.
