Men's Tennis Dominates Lake Superior State, 7-2

Houghton, Mich. - The Lewis University men's tennis team was clicking on all cylinders, as four different players each won two matches on the way to the Flyers' 7-2 non-conference victory over Lake Superior State on Saturday (Feb. 13) afternoon.

"We're making progress daily and it's carrying over in our matches," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "It's great to get off to a good start, but we need to keep working hard."

With the victory, Lewis improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Lakers drop to 0-1 on the campaign.

Sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallin, Estonia/Audentese) paired up with junior Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboltschule/Missouri Valley) at No. 1 doubles for the 8-5 win over Razvan Mag and Sergui Laza. Lapimaa would later upend Mag, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Pestinger dropped Pawel Wegrzyn, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare Kool) teamed up with junior Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) at No. 2 doubles for the 8-6 win over Brandon Clayton and Robert Nelson. Irdoja also defeated Laza, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Wojnarowski handed Clayton a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 loss at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) earned the final victory for the Flyers at No. 5 singles with the 6-2, 6-4, 10-8 win over Travis Toth.

Lewis returns to action tomorrow, as the Flyers square off with Michigan Tech for a 9 AM (EST) first serve.
