Houghton, Mich. - The Lewis University women's tennis team had Michigan Tech on the ropes, but the Huskies rallied for a pair of victories in the final two matches to earn the 5-4 non-conference win over the Flyers at the Gates Tennis Center on Sunday (Feb. 14) afternoon.

With Lewis holding a 4-3 lead, Michigan Tech's Jacqueline Kukulski claimed the 6-2, 6-3 win over Jody Wagner (Avon, Ohio/Avon) at No. 5 singles, while teammate Kira Eck picked up the 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 triumph over Clare Kessler (Onalaska, Wis./Aquinas) at No. 6 singles to clinch the win for the Huskies.

"We're all a little disappointed right now," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "We played very well in doubles, but we could not carry that momentum into singles play the way we should have."

With the victory, Michigan Tech improves to 11-3 overall, while the visiting Flyers drop to 2-1 on the campaign.

For the second-straight day, sophomore Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) earned a pair of wins for the Flyers. Hargrove teamed with Kessler at No. 3 doubles for the 8-2 win over Caitlin Hartley and Chelsea Uganski. Hargrove would later claim the 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win over Asel Otunchieva at No. 3 singles.

Lewis' No. 1 doubles team of freshman Jana Schulz (Recklinghausen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss Gymnasium) and sophomore Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) garnered the 8-6 win over Michigan Tech's Nathalia Rondelli and Ploy Suthijindawong.

Sophomore Maggie Novack (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) rounded out the winners for the Flyers with the 6-2, 6-3 victory over Danielle Stoll at No. 4 singles.

Lewis returns to action on February 20th, as the Flyers head to Big Rapids, Michigan to square off with Ferris State for a 10 AM (EST) first serve.
