Big Rapids, Mich. - The Lewis University women's tennis team knew that they were in for a tough day on Saturday (Feb. 20) morning, as the Flyers were matched up with the Midwest region's No. 6 ranked team in Ferris State.

The Bulldogs lived up to their billing as they cruised to an 8-1 non-conference victory over the visiting Flyers at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

"Though the women have some things to work on in doubles (play), they came out in singles and played smarter tennis in the last few matches," Lewis assistant women's tennis coach Chris Meyer said. "We still have some work to do."

With the victory, Ferris State improves to 4-2 overall, while the Flyers fall to 2-2 on the campaign.

Freshman Jana Schulz (Recklinghausen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss Gymnasium) earned the 6-3, 6-2 over Ferris State's Amy Ingle at No. 1 singles for Lewis' lone victory on the day.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 21) afternoon, as they match-up against another regionally-ranked opponent in No. 4 Grand Valley State. First serve is set for 1 PM (EST).

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 9th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
