ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Senior Scott Householder (Berwyn, Ill./St. Josephs/Triton) homered twice and freshman Matt Frahm (McLean, Ill./Olympia) earned his first career victory in Lewis' 8-3 victory in game one at Maryville on Monday. Lewis missed a chance for a road sweep by dropping an extra inning affair in game two, 4-3 in nine innings.

Householder finished game one 4-for-5 with three RBI. He hit a solo home run in the fifth and a two-run bomb in the ninth.

The Flyers scored a run in the fourth when junior Tyler Newsome (Palos Heights, Ill./Marist/South Suburban CC) stole home.

Lewis took lead with three runs in the second inning. Junior Vince Campagna (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) singled in a run and freshman Derek Thomas (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) doubled to knock in a pair. The rally started after Lewis' first two batters were retired.

Junior Cameron Anello (Homer Glen, Ill./Brother Rice) walked three times in the game and scored twice.

Frahm improved his record to 1-1. He went eight innings, allowing only a three-run home run in the eighth inning. He surrendered eight hits but walked none and fanned seven Maryville batters.

"Frahm threw the ball well," head coach Tim McDonough said. "His only mistake was the 3-run home run. He gave us eight great innings.

"As a team we played well in game one. We were aggressive on the base paths and House hit two big homers."

Both teams scored a run in the first inning of game two. Lewis' tally came on a Householder RBI single. It stayed tied at one until the Flyers put one on the board in the fourth thanks to a RBI groundout by sophomore Michael Wido (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) to score junior Miguel Amesquita (Hometown, Ill./Brother Rice/Triton). Lewis made it 3-1 in the sixth when Wido hit a sacrifice fly to score Amesquita once again.

Maryville chased Lewis starter freshman Steve Almanza (Glendale, Ariz./Horizon) in the sixth when they tied it up with two runs.

Lewis had chances in the eighth and ninth innings but couldn't get a run across. In the eighth Amesquita doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch but Wido didn't come through this time as he struck out. In the ninth senior Michael Fedoruk (Norridge, Ill./Notre Dame) was doubled off from second base to end the inning.

Senior Ted Bartnik (Diamond, Ill./Coal City/Illinois Valley CC) came in to pitch the ninth. Maryville's Nick Little singled to lead off the inning. The next batter bunted. Bartnik fielded the ball but his throw to first base was wild and Little came all the way around to score and end the game.

Bartnik (0-2) took the loss.

"It came down to they got the big hits and we didn't," McDonough said. "We had some chances for two-out RBIs in extras, which we've been getting lately, it just didn't happen in game two."

Maryville is now 4-6 (1-1 GLVC). Lewis stands at 10-7 (2-2 GLVC). The Flyers' road show continues on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Oakland City. The contests will cap a six game, three day, three city road trip.
