DeKalb, Ill. - In their first of three consecutive matches against Division I opponents, the Lewis University men's tennis team represented themselves nicely, as Northern Illinois claimed the 5-2 win over the Flyers at the Huskie Tennis Courts on Friday (March 19) afternoon.
Lewis' Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) and Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) each earned forfeit wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles respectively.
With the win, Northern Illinois improves to 7-7 overall, while the visiting Flyers drop to 5-3 overall.
"The guys competed well today," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "We had some chances that we let slip away in doubles but we came out and fought very well in the singles.
"They beat us but we will be better from this experience."
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (March 21) as they take on both Purdue (3 PM) and Western Illinois (TBA) in West Lafayette, Indiana.
