ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - With starting setter Mike Iandolo (Orlando, Fla./Long Beach State) nursing an ankle injury, back-up setter Andy Frontz (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont CC) stepped into the starting lineup on Friday to help No. 15 Lewis to a 30-25, 30-23, 30-28 sweep of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association foe Quincy at Neil Carey Arena.

Frontz recorded 46 assists with three blocks (one solo) and two kills.

"Andy came in, was intense and worked hard," head coach Dan Friend said. "He pushed hard to help us to a win in three."

Lewis led from the opening serve in the first set. Quincy led the second set 14-13 when the Flyers went on an 8-1 run to take control of the frame. Frontz had a block, a block assist and assisted on five Lewis kills during the stretch.

The third set was a different story. Quincy led by as many as eight at 17-9 and 22-14. It was a 25-19 Hawks advantage when Lewis asked for time. The Flyers came out of the break on fire, recording six of the next seven points to cut the score to 26-25. An attack error by freshman Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) only halted Lewis' momentum as the Flyers responded with three consecutive points. Lewis took the lead at 28-27 on an impressive block by the duo of Frontz and sophomore Matt Gallik (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice). A Quincy kill tied the score at 28; however Lewis finished off the set with two consecutive kills by junior Brian Muesenfechter (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers).

Senior Nathan Klaas (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) finished with 13 kills, six digs and four block assists. Karbiener totaled 10 kills, six digs and three block assists. Gallik added nine kills on 11 swings to hit .727. He also added seven blocks (one solo) and a pair of aces. Senior libero Rikki Garma (Lihue, Hawaii/Ost) totaled 11 digs.

"Rikki was really good tonight," Friend said. "He averaged almost four digs a game."

Lewis out-blocked the Hawks 13.5 to 11.

"It was good to see our block show up again for a vital conference game," Friend said.

Lewis hit .275 while holding Quincy to a .122 hitting percentage.

Quincy falls to 10-12 (2-6 MIVA) while Lewis improves to 14-7 (4-3 MIVA). Lewis hosts non-conference foe George Mason on Saturday at Neil Carey Arena. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
