ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore middle hitter Matt Gallik (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) hit .615 with eight kills while adding seven block assists and three aces in No. 15 Lewis' 37-35, 30-21, 30-24 sweep of George Mason Saturday evening at Neil Carey Arena.

Senior setter Andy Frontz (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont CC), starting for the second consecutive match due to an injury to senior Mike Iandolo (Orlando, Fla./Long Beach State), had another strong match. He totaled 39 assists with 11 digs while adding three kills.

"It was another great performance by Andy stepping into the starting role," head coach Dan Friend said. "He is the epitome of the guy who is always working his hardest and he really took advantage of his opportunity the last two nights."

Freshman Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) totaled 18 kills while hitting at a .303 clip. He also added eight digs and two aces. Senior Nathan Klaas (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) finished with 11 kills. Senior libero Rikki Garma (Lihue, Hawaii/Ost) finished with 10 digs.

"We had a couple guys with big nights," Friend said. "Ian carried a large portion of the offense, Rikki had another double-digit dig performance and Matt is playing great volleyball right now."

It looked like the Flyers were going to drop the opening set, trailing 24-20 and 29-27. However much like the 44-42 opening set against Juniata a week before, Lewis had an answer for every George Mason push. First Lewis tied it at 29 with a kill by Karbiener and an ace by Gallik. They were the first of seven George Mason set points the Flyers would turn away. Lewis finally won the set by scoring three consecutive points on kills by Gallik, Klaas and Karbiener.

Lewis never trailed in the second set, cruising to the victory. The third set was a bit closer. George Mason led 8-7 when Lewis scored seven of the next eight points to grab a 14-9 lead and control of the match.

George Mason falls to 5-14 while Lewis improves to 15-7. The Flyers return to action on Wednesday when they host conference-foe IPFW at 7 p.m.
