Men's Tennis Moves Winning Streak To Four With 9-0 Blanking Of Maryville

St. Louis, Mo. - A new era has dawned on the Lewis University men's tennis team, as the Flyers won their ninth match of the season with a 9-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference road whitewash over host Maryville on Thursday (Apr. 1) afternoon.

With the win, Lewis improves to 9-4 overall in the 2010 campaign. Prior to this season, the Flyers had won a total of 10 contests since 2006. Maryville falls to 1-7 on the season.

Lewis sophomore and reigning GLVC Player of the Week, Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) extended his singles winning streak to 15 matches with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Maryville's Jonas Skold at No. 1. At No. 1 doubles, Lapimaa paired with fellow sophomore Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare) for the 8-1 win over Skold and Ryan Williams. Irdoja also picked up the 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Williams at No. 2 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Lewis juniors Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) and Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) dropped Maryville's Kevin Rader and Patrick Kroener, 8-0. Wojnarowski added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dino Kanlic at No. 3 singles, while Pestinger claimed the 6-0, 6-0 win over Kroener at No. 5 singles.

Lewis freshmen Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and Brandon Tilton (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) teamed up at No. 3 doubles for the 8-1 victory over Andy Tipton and Matt Murray. Hardacre chipped in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ryan Lund at No. 4 singles, while Tilton earned the 6-4, 6-1 decision over Tyler Sexton at No. 6 singles.

Lewis returns to action on Friday (Apr. 2), as the Flyers take on Missouri-St. Louis for a 10 AM first serve.
