COLUMBUS, Ohio - No. 13 Ohio State swept Lewis men's volleyball 32-30, 30-25, 30-21 on Saturday evening at St. John Arena in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match.

The Flyers had a pair of set points in the opening frame but couldn't get the final point to win it. Lewis trailed 13-11 when they scored four consecutive points to take a 15-13 lead and force Ohio State to ask for time. Lewis held a two-point advantage for most of the set until Ohio State scored back-to-back points to tie it at 28. Senior Nathan Klaas (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) delivered a kill to give Lewis their first set point at 29-28. However a Klaas service error tied it at 29. Klaas got the point back on a kill to give Lewis another set point. This time a kill by Ohio State's Kevin Heine tied it at 30. Back-to-back Ohio State blocks gave the Buckeyes the set.

Ohio State put the Flyers on their heels in the second set with a quick 7-3 lead. Lewis trailed by as many as seven in the set but rallied back to make it a 25-22 score on three consecutive points. Ohio State asked for time and responded with a kill to put momentum back on their side.

The third frame was tied at 12 when Ohio State used an 8-1 run to take control and put the Flyers away.

Klaas finished with 12 kills and five digs while hitting .385. Freshman Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) totaled 11 kills and two aces. Junior Brian Muesenfechter (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) totaled six kills, five digs and five block assists. Sophomore Matt Gallik (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) added eight kills and four block assists.

Ohio State hit .483 while Lewis hit .309. Shawn Sangrey led Ohio State with 25 kills.

"Unfortunately we didn't capitalize on some opportunities in the first and we didn't have the same energy in the second," head coach Dan Friend said. "We hit at a decent clip, blocked a few balls but we didn't serve-receive or play defense well enough tonight."

Ohio State improves to 18-7 (10-1 MIVA). Lewis falls to 16-9 (5-5 MIVA). The Flyers are back in action on Friday and Saturday for a pair of MIVA matches against Grand Canyon. Saturday will be Senior Day. Both matches will start at 7 p.m.
