Owensboro, Ky. - Despite seeing their six-match winning streak come to an end on Friday (Apr. 9) night against No. 40 Southern Indiana, the Lewis University men's tennis team got back on track with the 8-1 non-conference win over Brescia at Moreland Park on Saturday (Apr. 10) afternoon.
With the win, Lewis improves to 12-5 overall, while Brescia drops to 3-8.
Lewis sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) extended his singles winning streak to 19 matches with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Brescia's Thiago Mastroianni at No. 2. At No. 1 doubles, Lapimaa paired with fellow sophomore Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare) for the 8-3 win over Mastroianni and Julein Chenneberg. Irdoja also picked up the 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Chenneberg at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, Lewis freshman Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and junior Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) dropped Brescia's Jan Dombrowski and Barrett Smith, 8-5. Hardcare added a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over Dombrowski at No. 3 singles, while Pestinger claimed the 6-2, 6-3 win over Jacob Blevins at No. 5 singles.
Lewis junior Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) and freshman Brandon Tilton (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) teamed up at No. 3 doubles for the 8-3 victory over Blevins and Alex Bumm. Wojnarowski also earned the 6-1, 6-3, win over Smith at No. 4 singles.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Apr. 11), as the Flyers take on Quincy for a 12 PM first serve.
