Quincy, Ill. - The Lewis University men's tennis team heads into the final weekend of the regular season on a high note, as the Flyers claimed the 8-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over Quincy on Sunday (Apr. 11) afternoon.
With the win, Lewis improves to 13-5 overall, while Quincy drops to 2-12.
Lewis sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) extended his singles winning streak to 20 matches with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Quincy's Rodrigo Marroquin at No. 1. At No. 1 doubles, Lapimaa paired with classmate Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare) for the 8-0 win over Rodrigo Marroquin and Alonso Marroquin. Irdoja earned the 6-1, 6-1 victory over Baxter Grace at No. 2 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, Lewis freshman Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and junior Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) upended Quincy's Jeff Terry and Grace, 8-2. Hardcare dropped Alonso Marroquin, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, while Pestinger blanked John Irish, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
Lewis junior Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) and freshman Brandon Tilton (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) matched up at No. 3 doubles for the 8-2 victory over Irish and Jacob Lord. Wojnarowski was victorious at No. 5 singles with the 6-1, 6-0 win over Terry.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Apr. 16), as the Flyers welcome Bellarmine to the Jack Oremus Complex for a 2 PM first serve.
