Men's Tennis Clinches GLVC Tourney Berth With 6-3 Win Over Bellarmine

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's tennis team clinched its second consecutive berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with the 6-3 GLVC win over Bellarmine at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Friday (Apr. 16) afternoon.

With the win, Lewis improves to 14-5 overall and 3-1 in GLVC play, while the visiting Knights drop to 6-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference action.

Lewis sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) extended his singles winning streak to 21 matches with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Bellarmine's Nate Matthews at No. 1. At No. 1 doubles, Lapimaa teamed up with sophomore Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare) for the 8-0 win over Matthews and Jacob Knagenhjelm. Irdoja added a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Paul Clark at No. 2 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Lewis freshman Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and junior Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) dropped Tyler Worley and Clark, 8-6. Pestinger later claimed the 7-6 (3), 6-4 win over Worley at No. 4 singles.

Lewis junior Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) wrapped up the win for the Flyers with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Todd Atcher at No. 5 singles.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 17), as the Flyers welcome regionally-ranked Northern Kentucky to the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex for a 10 AM first serve.
