St. Louis, Mo. - The Lewis University men's tennis team found themselves trailing 2-1 after doubles play, but the Flyers dug in deep and won four singles matches to preserve their five match winning streak with the 5-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Friday (Apr. 2) afternoon.
With the win, Lewis improves to 10-4 overall, while the host Tritons are now 2-6 on the campaign.
Lewis sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) extended his singles winning streak to 16 matches with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over UMSL's Andreas Hammer at No. 1. He also teamed up with classmate Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare) for the 8-4 win over Hammer and Daniel Anthony. Irdoja would later defeat Anthony, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
Freshman Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) claimed the 6-3, 6-4 victory over Tim Bryant at No. 4 singles, while junior Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) secured the team win with the 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Alex Cherman at No. 5 singles.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 3), as the Flyers welcome Indianapolis to the Jack Oremus Tennis Courts for a 2 PM (CST) first serve.
