Men's Tennis Takes Sixth-Straight With 7-2 Win Over Indianapolis

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's tennis team left no doubt on Saturday (Apr. 3) afternoon, as the Flyers won their first five matches on their way to the 7-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference win, their sixth consecutive victory, over Indianapolis at the Jack Oremus Tennis Courts.

With the win, Lewis improves to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in GLVC play, while the Greyhounds fall to 7-8 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.

Lewis sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) extended his singles winning streak to 17 matches with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over UIndy's Taylor Broda at No. 1. At No. 1 doubles, Lapimaa paired with fellow sophomore Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare) for the 8-2 win over Jeff Price and David Schoch. Irdoja also picked up the 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Alex Poe at No. 2 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Lewis juniors Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) and Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) claimed the 9-7 triumph over Poe and Werner Henning. Pestinger later downed Henning, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.

Lewis freshmen Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and Brandon Tilton (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) teamed up at No. 3 doubles for the 8-4 victory over Preston Swain and Steffen Good. Hardacre went on to drop Good at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

Lewis returns to action on Friday (Apr. 9), as the Flyers head to Evansville, Indiana to square off with Southern Indiana for a 2 PM first serve.
