Romeoville, Ill. - After dropping two of three doubles matches against Indianapolis, the Lewis University women's tennis team fought back to take a 4-2 lead, but the Greyhounds won the No. 4 through No. 6 singles contests to earn the 5-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Flyers at the Jack Oremus Tennis Courts on Saturday (Apr. 3) afternoon.
With the victory, Indianapolis improves to 9-3 on the season and 1-2 in GLVC action while the host Flyers, fall to 5-6 on the campaign and 0-2 in conference play.
Lewis sophomore Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) led the charge for the Flyers with a pair of victories on the afternoon. Hargrove teamed with Clare Kessler (Onalaska, Wis./Aquinas) at No. 2 doubles for the 8-2 win over Rachel Barger and Alex Covington. Hargrove later claimed the 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 come-from-behind win over Alena Perez-Majul.
Lewis' regionally-ranked Jana Schulz (Recklinghausen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss Gymnasium) claimed the 6-1, 6-2 win over Lee Matthews at No. 1 singles, while teammate Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) claimed the 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 triumph over Meghan Teunis at No. 2 singles.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Apr. 9), as the Flyers head to Evansville, Indiana to square off with Southern Indiana for a 2 PM (CST) first serve.
