Evansville, Ind. - Three different times this season, the Lewis University women's tennis team had found itself on the wrong end of a 5-4 decision and Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference match against Southern Indiana provided an opportunity for another close match.

With the score tied at four-apiece, Lewis freshman Jody Wagner (Avon, Ohio/Avon) claimed the hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 decision over USI's Logan Ackerman at No. 5 singles to clinch the 5-4 win for the Flyers over the host Screaming Eagles.

With the win, Lewis moves to 5-6 on the campaign and 1-2 in GLVC action, while USI falls to 6-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Lewis' regionally-ranked Jana Schulz (Recklinghausen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss Gymnasium) and junior Clare Kessler (Onalaska, Wis./Aquinas) each earned a pair of wins for the Flyers against USI on Friday. Schulz teamed with Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) at No. 1 doubles for the 9-8 (7-4) win over Southern Indiana's Michelle Girgenti and Katie Jo Clagg. Schulz would upend Girganti, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1 singles.

Kessler and sophomore Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) paired up at No. 2 doubles for the 8-3 triumph over Lindsey White and Ackerman. She also picked up the 6-1, 6-2, win over Jodie Petty at No. 6 singles.

Lewis returns to the court on Saturday (Apr. 10) morning, as the Flyers battle GLVC rival Kentucky Wesleyan for a 10 AM first serve in Owensboro, Kentucky.
