ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis women's soccer fell to Southern Indiana 1-0 on Friday evening in a road Great Lakes Valley Conference match.
Southern Indiana scored the only goal of the game 2:34 into the contest. Nancy Newcomer found the back of the net on an assist on a throw-in by Susan Ellsperman.
Lewis held a 7-5 edge in corners and a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett), sophomore Libby Cooper (Batavia, Ill/Batavia/UW-Milwaukee) and junior Amanda Slove (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) each had two shots for the Flyers.
Goaltender Megan George (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) had four saves for Lewis.
"We knew going in that USI would be high energy and would come flying at us," head coach Chris Koenig said. "But you can't keep playing from behind and we need to learn from our mistakes."
The Flyers fall to 2-3 (2-2 GLVC) while Southern Indiana improves to 5-1 (3-1 GLVC). Lewis is at Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday at noon.
