The win extends Lewis' Great Lakes Valley Conference match home winning streak to 23 contests.

The match opened up with a 3-3 tie before freshman libero Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) served five straight points to give the Flyers an 8-3 advantage, forcing St. Joseph's to call a timeout. Three kills by senior Lauren Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) and an ace by sophomore Jen Krumwiede (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial/IPFW) gave Lewis a 12-5 lead. The Flyers held the Pumas to just seven kills in the first set and had six service errors.

The Flyers opened up set two on a 12-4 run before St. Joseph's responded with an 11-6 run of their own to bring the score to 18-16. Another 4-3 run by the Pumas forced a Lewis timeout at 21-20. Sophomore Mary Carroll (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) came out of the timeout with a kill followed by a kill by classmate Jillian Carlberg (Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee). A Kate Weiskittel service error gave the Flyers set point but two straight kills and a service ace by St. Joseph's gave the Pumas a 25-24 advantage. With the set on the line, Saint Joseph's missed their serve. Both teams traded service errors and a deep court tip by senior Danielle Mount (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) and a block by Ruedi and Mount gave Lewis set point at 27-26 but failed to convert after a Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township/Nova Southeastern) service error. An attack error gave Lewis a 28-27 advantage and sophomore Nikki Maes (Chicago, Ill./Queen of Peace) finally ended the set with an ace.

St. Joseph's controlled much of the third set enjoying as much as a 17-13 lead. The Flyers responded to tie the score at 18-18, forcing the Pumas to use a timeout. Junior Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) had three kills in a five point span to give Lewis a 23-20 advantage, forcing a St. Joseph's timeout. Two straight Lewis hitting errors brought the lead to just one at 23-22, forcing a Flyer timeout. A Puma service error gave Lewis match point and kill by graduate student Adria Phillips (South Bend, Ind./Riley/Indiana) ended the match for the Flyers.

Carlberg led the Flyers with eight kills while Koeneman and Seliga each had seven. Seliga also added 15 digs. Ruedi finished with 24 assists.

"We were able to play everybody and communication wasn't a major issue," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "Everyone fought hard for every point and in pressure situations every single person played smart."

Lewis held St. Josephs' leading hitter Sharon Freund to just 10 kills on 32 attempts. Her average coming into the game was 3.38 kills/set.

With the win, Lewis improves to 8-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. The Pumas drop to 3-6 and 0-1 in conference action.
