ST. LOUIS - Missouri-St. Louis, helped by two first half goals, defeated Lewis 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in a road Great Lakes Valley Conference game for the Flyers. The start of the game was delayed two hours due to overnight rain in the St. Louis area.
Kaylee Neutzling scored for UMSL 12:28 into the game. The goal was assisted by Jesa Jenkings and Kelly Muesenfechter. Bridget Belli added UMSL's second goal at 36:15, assisted by Courtney Blake. The Tritons' third goal came at the 80:24 mark on an own goal.
UMSL held a 7-6 edge in shots while Lewis held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Allison Schieffer (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) recorded two shots on goal for Lewis.
"We gave up two goals today on set pieces, a corner kick and a foul they served into the box," head coach Chris Koenig said. "There is no excuse for today."
The Tritons improve to 3-1-1 (3-1-1 GLVC) while Lewis falls to 2-4-0 (2-3-0 GLVC). Lewis returns to action on Friday with a conference home game against Bellarmine. Start time is slated for 2:30 p.m. at the Lewis Soccer Field.
