Midland, Mich. - The Lewis University men's soccer team was unable to put its best foot forward on Thursday afternoon, as the No. 3 Flyers dropped a 3-1 non-conference decision to Northwood in their season opener at Dean Field.
"We were bad, bottom line," Lewis University head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "Nothing good came from this game today. We couldn't do anything plain and simple. We couldn't pass, defend, shoot or score.
"We need to put this game behind us and keep on working."
With the victory, Northwood improves to 1-0, while the Flyers drop to 0-1 on the campaign.
Lewis senior midfielder Mardoche Beya (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) put the Flyers on the board at the 13-minute mark, as he took a feed from sophomore Cristhian Ramirez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling/Emerald Coast United Academy).
That lead proved to be brief, as Northwood posted three unanswered goals with tallies from Rorie McKenzie, Ryan Morales and Sterling Adgate to put the game away for the Wolves.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 5) afternoon, as the Flyers welcome No. 9 Drury to the Lewis Soccer Field for a 12 PM start.
