ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Jessica Summers-Hernandez (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) made her first goal of the season a big one, and the only one of the game between Bellarmine and Lewis on Friday afternoon.

At 66:09 Lewis earned a free kick on the far right side of the goal. Summers-Hernandez took the kick and instead of getting it into the box and looking for help she put the shot on goal despite the difficult angle. Bellarmine goalkeeper Amy Kunowski moved just a few feet from the right post and in position to make the save. Kunowski got her hands on the rising shot but couldn't control it and it ricocheted up and into the top of the goal.

"Jessica had a great strike and I don't think the goalie was expecting the ball to be on frame from the angle Jessica had," head coach Chris Koenig said.

Senior goalkeeper Megan George (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) made five saves for the Flyers, including four in the second half.

"I don't think we really accomplished our game plan in the first half, giving the ball away too much, but the positive I take out of it is we were able to regroup," Koenig said. "Our backs were able to keep us in the game and we made some adjustments at halftime to give us a more successful second half."

Lewis held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

Bellarmine falls to 4-3-0 (3-2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference). Lewis improves to 3-4-0 (3-3-0 GLVC).

Lewis hosts Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
