No. 15 Men's Volleyball Reigns Over King 3-1

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Behind 13 kills from junior Aaron Flick (North Ridgeville, Ohio/St. Edward), No. 15 Lewis men's volleyball defeated King 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 22-25, 25-15) on Friday evening.

King led the opening set 20-19 when the Flyers closed the stanza on a 5-1 run. Sophomore Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) had two kills in the run. Lewis had scoring streaks of four, five and six to easily take the second set. Following a third set loss, Lewis took the match by winning the fourth set. The frame saw Lewis go on a 13-3 run to close out the match. King jumped out to a 7-3 lead, but the Flyers tied things at 8-8.

Flick's 13 kills came on .750 hitting. Fellow middle hitter Matt Gallik (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) added eight kills. Petty had 11 kills and three aces.

"Aaron and Matt were good tonight," head coach Dan Friend said. "The middles were driving our offense."

Freshman BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) recorded 32 assists and three solo blocks. Freshman Roberto Roberto Torres-Davis (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Benito) and sophomore Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) both had nine digs.

Lewis had eight aces to just one by King.

"We were able to put some pressure on King from the serving line tonight," Friend said.

King is 0-1 while Lewis improves to 2-0 after defeating Mount Olive earlier in the day

"It's tough to play two matches in a day and I'm glad we were able to get two wins," Friend said.

Lewis plays at Lees-McRae on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT.
